  • Best Start Assessments take place during the first few days of school in 2026

Orientation Sessions

  • 2 x half days on 30/10/25 and 6/11/25; sign in at 9.30am and pick up at 12.30pm
  • 2 x full days on 13/11/25 and 20/11/25; sign in at 9.30am and pick up at 2.30pm

School Readiness

Children who are ready for school:

  • independently make decisions
  • self-initiate and problem solve
  • dress and toilet independently
  • sit with a group
  • participate by listening, asking and answering questions
  • self-regulate emotional responses
  • separate easily from parent at drop off
  • work and play besides others
  • accept the decisions of adults

How to Prepare for Starting School

  • Practise walking to school /driving the school route
  • Check out the local library – borrow some books
  • Pack a school lunch and have a picnic at the park
  • Get your child to dress themselves in their uniform
  • Practise cutting and pasting
  • Practise opening and closing their lunchbox and talk about which food is for lunch and which food is for recess

What to Bring to School

  • Fruit

  • School Bag
  • Spare clothes / underwear
  • Money in a purse or wallet

Label everything!

Choosing a school bag

  • Size – it will need to be big enough to fit an A4 document folder (Home Reader), spare clothes, lunchbox, drink bottle, library bag

  • Identifying feature such as a tag or keyring

  • Durability

Other things to consider

  • A trip to the doctor or community health centre for a check up – are immunisations up to date, hearing check?
  • If your child has an allergy or takes medication please talk to the office staff
  • Will your child catch the bus? Organise your bus pass early
  • Will you be needing Out Of School Care? - think about those arrangements
  • What are your plans for after-school pickup?
