Positive Behaviour for Learning
Queanbeyan West Public School implements the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) whole-school evidence-based framework to support the development of a positive, safe and supportive learning culture.
Lucky Lorikeet is our PBL mascot. You will often see Lucky around our school looking out for students who are following our 3 values, which are Safety, Respect and Responsibility. It is an expectation that students follow these values in all areas of the school.
The PBL framework is a school-wide system for all students and staff, which includes the use of 2 reward systems; Lucky Leaves and Class Merits.
LUCKY LEAVES
Lucky leaves are given to students when they demonstrate school values. This could be in the playground or classroom and are a super quick form of feedback to say - 'Hey, I noticed you doing the right thing!'. Every week, each grade has a prize draw. The more leaves in the barrel, the more chances to be the lucky winner
MERIT AWARDS
Merit awards are given out to students who demonstrate success at school, by either demonstrating our school values, academic success, leadership, school representation, dedication to reading (through our Home Reading Program) or social skills. Students collect class merits and receive an assembly award for every 5 they have received. When students get to 30 class merits, they receive an Emerald Award and school pin.
